DMI ref. omg110 Image title: DDT spherulites | 10.65
DDT (CAS# 50-29-3, Dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane) White, crystalline solid, freely soluble in most organic solvents. One of the first and most effective synthetic insecticides. The discovery of its insecticidal properties led to a Nobel prize for the Swiss entomologist Dr Paul Mueller in 1948. Unfortunately, DDT is very persistent in the environment and accumulates in the food chain, affecting (among other things) the strength of eggshells in birds in the wild. Crossed polars. |
